With injury issues starting to mount, Manchester United’s January transfer window could be busier than expected, and Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on how the club is reacting.

Benjamin Sesko’s injury against Spurs was a real setback, and the lack of updates during the international break hasn’t helped.

Even if it wasn’t long-term, he was always going to miss some time. And with Joshua Zirkzee the only other true striker in the squad, it’s left them short.

Romano has now outlined how Manchester United are looking at their options in response to Sesko’s injury situation.

Sesko’s Injury and the Impact on Manchester United’s January Approach

Ruben Amorim addressed the injury after the match against Spurs, suggesting that Manchester United might need to explore options in the January window.

It appeared that Amorim was considering stepping away from his earlier stance against short-term signings, given how stretched the squad was becoming.

The club has a history of turning to stop-gap solutions in January, though it doesn’t align with Ineos’ long-term strategy. That’s why updates indicating Sesko’s absence wouldn’t be too lengthy were so important.

According to Romano, Sesko is only expected to miss about three weeks and could be back in training by early December.

This would put him back in time for the congested holiday schedule, which changes how the club might approach January.

Sesko injury update eases pressure on Ruben Amorim and Ineos

It saves Ineos and Amorim from making a judgement call borne out of panic that could have gone against their philosophy.

Romano also noted that the club is committed to avoiding short-term fixes, highlighting that Zirkzee will play an important role while Sesko recovers.

Zirkzee’s minutes are likely to increase during AFCON when Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are away, especially as Sesko works back toward full fitness.

The club is trying to avoid any short-term signings in January, with a preference for longer-term additions, as seen last year with Patrick Dorgu. Zirkzee’s return to form and the more positive outlook on Sesko’s injury make it easier for them to stick to this approach.
