Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the recent rumours that Liverpool are interested in Eljif Elmas.

There have been some links between the Napoli winger and Liverpool over the past fortnight, but it’s fair to say that they’ve come from less than reputable sources.

Romano has now addressed these rumours, and he’s led to believe that Elmas will not be headed to Anfield this month.

Indeed, the journalist says that Napoli actually have no plans to sell any of their players this January.

Elmas a no-go

Romano shared what he knows about this situation.

“I’ve seen rumours that Klopp is interested in signing the Napoli winger, Elmas, is there any truth in that?” Romano was asked.

“At the moment no. I don’t think Napoli will touch any single situation or any single player in the January transfer window. They are doing incredible, they have been fantastic in the Champions League, they’re leading the Serie A,” Romano said.

“At the moment Napoli’s intention is to not touch any single player. I think Elmas will stay at least until the end of the season, I don’t see Liverpool going for him.”

Why would anyone leave?

If there’s a single club in Europe that you wouldn’t want to leave right now, it’s Napoli.

The Italian side are on the verge of making history by winning their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Maradona, and any player in this team will become immortal in Naples if they win this title.

This is a city that is obsessed with football, and making history there will etch your name into footballing folklore forevermore.

Factor in that they also have a real chance of winning the Champions League – they battered Liverpool in the group stages, and you have one of the most alluring destinations in Europe right now.

Elmas won’t leave Napoli in January, and we’d be surprised if any player decided to jump ship at this juncture.
