Fabrizio Romano has highlighted a key detail in Roma’s efforts to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, amid interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.

Sancho is out of favour at Old Trafford following his loan spell at Chelsea, which ended after the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Chelsea were expected to make the move permanent for £25m, but the deal did not go through as planned.

Instead, the Blues paid a £5m penalty fee to send Sancho back to United, where he has been left waiting for his next move since July.

The winger’s contract with Chelsea ended in June, and he has been looking for a way out of Manchester United ever since.

There has also been interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, while Roma, Inter Milan, and Juventus remain linked with the former England international.

The Athletic reported on Thursday that Roma have made a formal offer for Sancho, who is no longer in Manchester United’s plans. The deal is said to be worth £20m (€23.2m), which would see him make a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

Most of that fee is expected to be paid upfront, including add-ons as part of the overall package.

Beyond that, Fabrizio Romano highlighted an important aspect of the bid, noting that the obligation to buy is “quite easy to activate” due to its straightforward conditions.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained: “Jadon Sancho, official bid arrived today [Thursday] from Roma.

“Roma have offered a loan with an obligation to buy, quite easy to activate. This loan with an obligation is worth a transfer fee of £20m, so around 23m euros.

“That’s the total package between the loan fee and the full package, including the option to buy.

“The player is going to be an obligation under easy conditions, and so Sancho is open to making his move to Italy, but still waiting to understand if he is going to agree [to] personal terms with Roma or not.”

Sancho prefers a move to Roma, Inter Milan or Juventus over Turkey and Saudi Arabia

According to Romano, Sancho is not considering a move to Turkey at the moment, with his focus remaining on opportunities within Europe.

“But for sure, Sancho is in conversations with Roma and he is quite open to that [a move to the Serie A club].

“Sancho [is] still not opening the door to Turkish clubs. Besiktas were interested, but never [opened] the door on Sancho’s side. Why? Because Sancho now is giving [his] priority to Europe.

“Then, if on the 1st of September, the last day of the transfer window, this Sancho story will still be open.

“In that case, from 2nd of September, with the European market closed, remember that the Turkish market is still open for some time.”

Since his 2021 move, former Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho has made just 83 appearances as a Man United player. His contract with the Premier League club runs until 2026.
