Fabrizio Romano has praised Liverpool fans for applauding Karim Benzema and Luka Modric off the pitch last night despite losing 5-2 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Taking to Twitter, the Italian transfer expert lauded the Anfield support for the respect they gave to the Los Blancos duo, with Benzema scoring a brace as Madrid came from 2-0 down to secure a famous 5-2 victory over Liverpool, putting Carlo Ancelotti’s side one foot in for the next round of the competition.

Whilst a comeback isn’t off the table completely, many pundits and fans have already written off Liverpool in getting a miraculous result in the Spanish capital, with the Reds needing to win by a four-goal margin if they’re to overturn this latest defeat by Madrid.
Indeed, Liverpool could find inspiration from Chelsea, who almost managed a similar feat last season in the Champions League before Benzema turned up the heat and fired the 14-time European champions back into the match to dump the Blues out of the competition.
Liverpool fans showed Real Madrid the biggest respect by applauding

Fans applauding rival players off the pitch is something we don’t see much in football these days, yet Madrid’s comeback against Liverpool is a testament to just how good the Spanish side were at Anfield this week, with the home supporters aware of greatness when they see it.
Although Liverpool are in a rut of a season and could well miss out on top-four, Madrid showed their quality on Merseyside, and the fans were more than right to applaud the likes of Benzema and Modric off the pitch, with the duo still two of the best players in football despite their age.
