Fabrizio Romano has tipped Goncalo Ramos‘ transfer valuation to increase after the rumoured Newcastle United target bagged a hat-trick for Portugal in their 5-1 win against Switzerland.
Taking to Twitter, the Italian journalist was full of praise for the 21-year-old Benfica striker who stole the show for Portugal against their European rivals. Ramos was named in the starting XI to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, with Fernando Santos more than justified in his decision to make such a drastic change.

Portugal played some of the best football of the entire 2022 FIFA World Cup. And for Newcastle, they will be kicking themselves over Ramos’ performance, with the attacker heavily linked with a move to the St. James Park side in the summer transfer window.
Jornal de Noticias reported that the Magpies were ready to break the bank for Ramos in the off-season. However, Eddie Howe’s side instead decided to go after Alexander Isak in a club record deal, with the Portuguese striker going on to star for Benfica this season.
And the attacker has no doubt added a few million to his price tag after tonight’s performance, with Ramos bagging the first hat-trick of the 2022 World Cup and setting Portugal up with a tantalising quarter-final matchup with Morocco, much to the dismay of Newcastle.
Goncalo Ramos’ breakout performance could lead Portugal to glory

Portugal’s World Cup had been a mixed bag up until tonight, yet the single decision to drop Ronaldo for Ramos could be one big enough to set the 2016 Euro champions on their way to glory in Qatar, with the 21-year-old no doubt set to retain his spot for this weekend’s clash against Morocco.
Indeed, Ramos slotted into the Portuguese attack with ease and once again added to the case that a team without Ronaldo is a better team overall. And for many clubs, they will now have the Benfica star firmly on their radars heading into the January transfer window.
