Fabrizio Romano has issued an encouraging transfer update on Olympique Marseille star Pape Gueye, who Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing according to recent rumours.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist revealed that English clubs are following the Senegal international, with Gueye now on the radar for multiple clubs in Europe as Leeds look to sign the 23-year-old defensive midfielder in 2023 as reported by Jeunes Footeux.
Despite making just three starts all season, Gueye is wanted by numerous clubs ahead of the January transfer window, with an exit from Marseille seemingly on the cards with the midfielder yet to win the favour of Igor Tudor, who has made some questionable squad decisions this campaign.
And Leeds could be a realistic destination for Gueye, with Jesse Marsch likely to add to the Whites’ midfield in January as the American manager looks to bring in new players to elevate the Elland Road side to a whole new level and away from the relegation zone.

Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win against AFC Bournemouth took Leeds up into 12th at the time of writing, and some added steel and energy in the midfield could be exactly what the Yorkshire side need to shore up their backline, with Romano’s update an encouraging one for the Premier League side.
Romano said when asked about Gueye’s future: “There are clubs in England and France following Pape Gueye. At the moment there are still no advanced negotiations with any club, so the situation is quiet; but I’m sure we’ll have to keep an eye on him in 2023.”
Leeds signing Pape Gueye would be a great January addition

Attack and goals might be the main order of business for Leeds in January, but signing a young midfielder who can compete with the likes of Tyler Adams would be an ideal move for many fans in the winter window, and Gueye fits the bill for that perfectly.
The Marseille outcast fits the profile for the sort of player who Marsch can get the best out, and with Leeds’ defence leaking goal after goal, an extra defensive midfielder such as Gueye is perfect for what the Yorkshire side should be looking to bring in January.
