Fabrizio Romano has said that Newcastle United are working on handing Bruno Guimaraes a new contract amid reports that Real Madrid want to sign the midfielder.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist revealed that the Brazilian international is unlikely to leave Newcastle as thing stand, with the Magpies willing to open discussions with Guimaraes over signing a new deal to wave off interest from Madrid.
Romano said: “Newcastle want Bruno Guimaraes to stay, they’re prepared to discuss a new long term contract, so their plan is clear. At the moment, nothing is concrete for his exit; I’m sure many top clubs follow him but nothing else yet, despite the links with Real Madrid.”
Defensa Central have recently reported that Guimaraes could become a top target for Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti’s side misses out on Jude Bellingham, though given how important the midfielder is to Newcastle, a deal could be as difficult to pull off.

With Eddie Howe having a clear plan to build the midfield around Guimaraes, signing the 25-year-old down to a new contract will be massive for Newcastle’s long-term plans, and keeping away interest from Madrid will be huge as the Magpies look towards the future with the Brazilian.
Indeed, Guimaraes has been a revelation since signing for Newcastle in January 2022, and tying the midfielder for the upcoming years will be massive as interest from the likes of Madrid continues to build, with this latest update from Romano an encouraging one.
Newcastle must sign Guimaraes to new deal amid Madrid interest

Guimaraes has the makings of becoming a club legend at Newcastle, yet this could only happen if the club sign the midfielder down to a new contract, something that could now be quite the battle with Madrid reportedly interested in the former Olympique Lyonnais star.
Whilst there’s a strong chance that Guimaraes wants to remain on Tyneside, Newcastle have to show that they want the midfielder around for the long-term, with the Brazilian simply too good to let leave for Madrid, even if Los Blancos make the financial effort.
