Leeds United clearly know that they’ll have to speculate to accumulate points on their return to the Premier League next season.

Marcelo Bielsa has led United back to the top flight for the first time in 16 years and the Elland Road club are splashing the cash.

Leeds broke their transfer record last week in a £30 million deal for Rodrigo, which was followed up with a £13 million move for defender Robin Koch.

They have signed six players overall – the other four being youth talents – and they’re reportedly close to getting another one over the line.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Twitter that Leeds are very close to reaching an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb for Josko Gvardiol.

The Croat is only 18 but, with an £18 million transfer fee mooted, he’d be signed as a player to go straight into Bielsa’s senior squad nonetheless.

The respected Italian journalist – who had been consistently and confidently claiming that Kai Havertz to Chelsea was a done deal weeks before it was announced last night – also claimed that the West Yorkshire side are still in talks with Rodrigo De Paul.

Getting to the Premier League is a difficult task in itself, but staying there for the long term could be far tougher.

But going by their transfer activity so far, Leeds are prepared to splash the cash in an effort to keep their top-flight status for many years.

And if the Gvardiol claim is genuine, that’s another big step in the right direction.
