Fabrizio Romano has told CBS Sports that Liverpool are now ready to discuss a fee with Bayern Munich for Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago has helped Bayern win the Champions League, despite heavy speculation that Liverpool want to sign him.
The Spanish midfielder put in a brilliant display last night, as Bayern beat PSG 1-0, which only led for calls to sign him to grow louder from Liverpool supporters.
And Romano has offered hope that the Reds will be able to snap up the 29-year-old in the near future.
“He can have his last match for his team and then leave for Premier League football. Thiago will leave for sure this summer,” Romano said.
“Bayern Munich is now in talks with Liverpool, the player agreed personal terms. The player wants to play for Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool, now it’s time to start talks between Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
“They will talk about the fee. But there are good possibilities to see Thiago at Liverpool next season.”
The news that Liverpool are about to step up their chase of Thiago should cause great excitement around Anfield.
The Bayern man is one of the most gifted central midfielders in world football, and his arrival would only serve to make Liverpool an even stronger team.
If Klopp could pair Thiago’s creativity and composure with the work-rates of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho around him, then Liverpool’s midfield would look even stronger next term.
Generally it has been claimed that Liverpool will only sanction a deal if a player leaves.
However, the latest update suggests that Liverpool will open talks in the near future, even though no recent departures have been sanctioned from the club.
