Well, you can’t fault West Ham United or Aston Villa for trying.
According to Di Marzio, the Hammers and Aston Villa offered Mario Mandzukic a stint at their clubs toward the end of 2020.
With Mandzukic still technically a free agent, West Ham and the Villans could’ve been forgiven for ramping up their interest in the legendary 35-year-old striker.
But Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has bad news on this front.
Romano has tweeted that the Croatia international is on the brink of joining Italian giants AC Milan.
Both Premier League sides could definitely do with some extra firepower up front
The East Londoners have just sold Sebastien Haller and therefore there’s even more pressure on David Moyes to sign a number nine, while Aston Villa need some competition for Ollie Watkins up front in Dean Smith’s squad.
West Ham are ninth in the Premier League table, one place and three points ahead of Smith’s side, who do have three games in hand over some of their rivals.
