Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared details of Tottenham’s meeting with Erik Ten Hag last week.
As we all know, Ten Hag extended his contract with Ajax last week, but that news came after Spurs had a direct meeting with the 51-year-old.
Sadly, Tottenham were left rather unconvinced by Ten Hag after meeting with him and discussing the project and his ideas.
“This is the real behind the scenes. It was Tuesday night of last week, there was a direct meeting between Erik Ten Hag and Tottenham, what I want to say is that it is normal for a top club to meet with coaches and managers before deciding on the perfect one,” Romano said.
“They had a meeting, they were not 100 per cent convinced, and they decided, and when I say they, I mean Tottenham, they decided to go for a different one, Ten Hag, the day after communicated to Ajax about it, on the Wednesday, Ajax were happy because they wanted to keep Ten Hag and they decided to extend the contract with the clause they had, so one more year for him.
“Ten Hag said that there was something with Tottenham, so it was absolutely true the interest, but they spoke to the manager about the project, the ideas and there were many things going on, and that’s why they decided to go on.”

It seems as though Tottenham are being very picky with their next manager.
Based on just his CV, the 51-year-old looks as though he’d be a perfect fit at Spurs, but it’s about more than just what you’ve achieved in the past.
Spurs didn’t think he was the right fit based on the meeting they had with him, so their search goes on.
It will certainly be interesting to see which manager Tottenham opt to go for.
