Well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter the reason why Liverpool are not willing to pay €30 million (£26.76 million) for Thiago Alcantara.

Romano, who works for The Guardian among other news outlets, has said on the social networking site that the Reds are still in contact with Thiago and want to sign the central midfielder from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The journalist has claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants the former Barcelona star, but the Reds do not want to spend €30 million (£26.76 million) on the 29-year-old because they can sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Thiago is out of contract at Bayern at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, and the Reds can sign him on a pre-contract in January.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Liverpool are favourites for Thiago.

Sign Thiago now?

While Liverpool could sign Thiago on a free transfer next summer, the Reds could actually do with the central midfielder now.

No one knows what could happen in a year’s time, and if the Reds do not sign the central midfielder now, then they may not get the chance to.

Liverpool will become a better player with Thiago in it, and the Premier League champions should seriously considering paying €30 million (£26.76 million) to bring him to Anfield.
