Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Nicolo Barella amid his links to Liverpool.

The Italian has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield for some time now, but Romano is led to believe that this isn’t a transfer that is going to come to fruition anytime soon.

Indeed, the journalist says that Barella wants to stay at Inter Milan. The Italian giants are offering him a new five-year deal and the chance to be the club captain, and people close to Barella expect him to commit his future to Inter.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Barella.

“About the rumours on Nicolo Barella. We always have these rumours, Liverpool fans are always asking about Barella if he can play in Liverpool’s midfield. At the moment, no. Because, first of all, Barella wants to stay. Inter are offering him a new five-year deal with an increased salary and to be the captain after Handanovic, I see Barella staying, people around him see Barella staying and Inter feel he’s going to stay. I think any deal for Barella will be more than complicated. Never say never, but Liverpool are not working on it today,” Romano said.

Time to move on

If Liverpool were looking at Barella as an option this summer it may be time to move on.

Barella looks as though he’s going to be loyal to Inter for a few years yet, and it’s not hard to understand why he’s making such a decision.

Inter are one of the biggest and richest clubs in Italy and Barella is simply adored by the fanbase.

Liverpool may need to look elsewhere for a new midfielder.
