Manchester United are reportedly monitoring goalkeepers this summer, with Gianluigi Donnarumma among the names being linked to Old Trafford.
The 2024/25 season was far from ideal for either of Manchester United’s top goalkeeping options. Andre Onana was dropped by Ruben Amorim after a series of mistakes of Manchester United in the Europa League.

Although Amorim publicly backed Onana, their wasn’t surprising to see the club linked with several goalkeepers heading into the window. Altay Bayindir struggled to impress in the limited chances he received and is expected to leave this summer.
Amorim publicly backed Onana, but it was far from surprising to see United begin to be linked with goalkeepers ahead of the summer window. Altay Bayindir never filled fans with confidence in the limited chances he was given and is expected to depart over the summer.
Donnarumma, currently under contract with PSG until 2026, has caught United’s eye. Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Italian’s situation.
Fabrizio Romano updates on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future
Recent reports have suggested that United have made contact with Donnarumma’s camp. The club’s interest goes back years, and with PSG needing to make decisions due to his contract status, links have resurfaced.
Donnarumma, fresh off a Champions League win with PSG, could be on the move as the French side look to avoid losing him for free next summer.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Donnarumma’s representatives have met with PSG to discuss a new deal. While nothing is finalised, talks are reportedly underway.
According to FootMercato, Donnarumma is valued at £34m. However, if he agrees to new terms with PSG, any potential move to United could quickly become unrealistic.
Andre Onana’s situation could stop any Donnarumma move
If United were to pursue Donnarumma, it would likely be with the intention of making him the new number one. That scenario would hinge on Andre Onana departing.

However, United have reportedly decided to keep Onana following discussions between club chiefs and the player’s representatives.
Amorim appears to have enough belief in Onana to stick with him heading into the new campaign.
Edwin van der Sar has thrown his backing behind Onana, and INEOS will be hoping that decision pays off. Amorim can’t afford a poor start or another season defined by goalkeeping errors.
