Tottenham Hotspur could be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, but a top target is set to slip through the net.
Hugo Lloris turns 35 this year, and with Joe Hart hardly offering competition, Spurs may look for their long-term number one.
Back in April, Tuttomercatoweb reported that Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan was Tottenham’s top goalkeeping target, rivalling AC Milan for his signature.
At the time, it seemed reasonable; Maignan’s ex-Lille goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos was on Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff, with a reunion making sense.
However, Mourinho was sacked just days later, leaving Milan as the favourites to sign Maignan – and they look to have got their man amid question marks over Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future.
Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that an agreement has been reached between Lille and Milan, with the goalkeeper landing in Milan last night.
Maignan is in Italy to undergo his medical, signing a five-year contract after Milan struck a deal worth a total of €15million (£13million).
That’s an absolute bargain price for Milan, and if Spurs do need a younger stopper this summer, they’ll do well to find a better deal than the one Milan have struck for Maignan.
