West Ham United are now interested in snapping up Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria after leaving Chelsea.

Former Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria could make an instant Premier League return with West Ham United now interested.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that West Ham have ‘asked for informations’ about a deal to sign Zakaria.

It’s stated that Zakaria isn’t in the plans at Juventus for next season, so he will be available to sign this summer.

West Ham have made a first move by trying to gauge what will be needed for a deal – but they’re not alone in the race.

Romano claims that ‘many clubs’ want to sign Zakaria this summer and West Ham are now hoping to beat the competition.

Zakaria spent the past season on loan at Chelsea but the season didn’t go to plan.

The 26-year-old started just five Premier League games for Chelsea and he registered just four appearances for the Blues after the January transfer window.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea have chosen not to pursue Zakaria permanently and are sending him back to Juve.

The Turin giants don’t want Zakaria either though and West Ham could now give him an immediate return to London.

Denis Zakaria could help replace Declan Rice at West Ham

It looks like Declan Rice will be leaving West Ham this summer with Arsenal and Manchester City vying for his signature.

Replacing Rice will be hard; West Ham may need to sign two players, one to replace his defensive work and one to drive forward like Rice can.

Zakaria does have some experience in both roles, certainly going back to his time at Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

The Swiss international was branded ‘very complete’ by his Gladbach boss Marco Rose having dazzled as an all-action midfielder.

Zakaria is physically imposing at 6ft 3in tall but has also shown the ability to get from box to box if given the freedom.

We would imagine that West Ham view Zakaria as more of a defensive player and any ball-carrying will be an added bonus.

Juventus will probably be desperate to just get rid of Zakaria only 18 months after signing him, giving West Ham the chance to land a bargain – and barely make a dent into the expected Rice money.
