Tottenham Hotspur target Nahitan Nandez is ‘desperate’ to leave Cagliari before the transfer window slams shut later this month.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who made the claims whilst speaking on Matt Hayes’ YouTube channel this week.

Romano claims Tottenham have had contact with Cagliari as they pursue a potential deal for Nandez, but the move isn’t advanced yet.

Romano praised Nandez, branding him a ‘fighter’ whilst suggesting that he fits well with Tottenham’s style under Nuno Espirito Santo because he is such a team player.

Tottenham haven’t yet fully decided whether they want to sign a new midfielder though, which is why a deal for Nandez isn’t close by any stretch of the imagination.

“No, there is still no official bid and nothing advanced for but he is one of the names Tottenham have been enquiring for in the last few days and talking directly with Cagliari, the player is on the market because he’s desperate to leave Cagliari – he wants to try something new,” Romano said.

“We are talking about, in my personal opinion, an interesting player, really really good. He can play in a three-man midfield, he can play as a winger, he can play wherever in midfield or in potential attacking positions because he’s really good.”

“He’s a fighter, he’s always running for the team, he’s also perfect for Tottenham’s style. He’s a runner, he’s a good player, but at the moment, there is still nothing advanced because Tottenham want to decide if they want to sign a player in this position or not. If they will go, Nandez is one of the options for sure,” he added.

Nandez, 25, has starred in Italy with Cagliari having arrived from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019.

With 41 caps for Uruguay, Nandez has also been key on the international stage and is now seemingly ready for the next step in his career.

Diminutive at 5ft 7in tall but combative, energetic and versatile, Nandez is an interesting target for Tottenham and seemingly available for Fabio Paratici if he chooses to make a move.
