Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to land Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven having made a first verbal offer.

Wolfsburg have now received a first offer from Tottenham Hotspur for central defender Micky van de Ven.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Tottenham have made their move for Van de Ven.

Romano states that negotiations are ongoing as Tottenham seek to thrash out a deal with Wolfsburg.

It’s added that there is no issue on personal terms with Van de Ven seemingly keen to make the move to North London.

Rumours surrounding Van de Ven to Tottenham have really ramped up in recent days.

De Telegraaf reporter Mike Verweij suggested earlier this week that Van de Ven had agreed a five-year deal with Spurs.

The Mirror’s John Cross added that Tottenham are set to secure Van de Ven in a £30million move, with 90Min claiming that Spurs are increasingly confident of a deal.

Romano’s update today is another indication that Van de Ven is nearing a move to Spurs – but there is still work to be done.

Micky van de Ven’s key attributes analysed amid Tottenham push

It’s easy to love Van de Ven from an athletic standpoint.

The Dutchman is a giant at 6ft 4in tall and has ‘extreme speed’, as tabbed by Wolfsburg’s Marcel Schafer.

Ange Postecoglou likes to play a high defensive line so having recovery speed is vital.

Van de Ven ticks that box and being a natural left-footer is appealing too.

Spurs don’t have that left-footed option at the back with Clement Lenglet now heading back to Barcelona.

Van de Ven has even played at left back before and has shown the ability to carry and pass out from the back.

The 22-year-old still has developing to do; he likes to patient and then pounce when defending but can get a little clumsy at times.

If Van de Ven can fulfil his potential, Tottenham will have their left-sided centre back for years to come.
