Fulham have been making calls into a possible deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg before the transfer deadline.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is a wanted man with Fulham now joining the race for his signature ahead of deadline day.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Fulham have called Tottenham to ask about a deal for Højbjerg.

Marco Silva’s men are now scrambling to find a holding midfield player with Joao Palhinha seemingly on his way out.

The Portuguese anchor man wants to sign for Bayern Munich and a five-year deal is waiting for him in Germany.

Fulham don’t want to let Palhinha leave without a replacement though and are now working to find a signing.

One of their targets is Højbjerg, who doesn’t appear to be in the plans under Ange Postecoglou.

Højbjerg hasn’t started a single Premier League game this season and Tottenham would seemingly sell him without much fuss.

Fulham are now looking to lure him across London but Romano claims that the deal will not be easy because of Daniel Levy’s demands.

Højbjerg has been a vital first-team player at Tottenham ever since his move from Southampton in 2020.

The Dane is out of favour now though and Tottenham seem ready to cash in with the midfielder now inside the final two years of his contract.

Fulham are now making their move but they will face competition for the former Bayern Munich talent.

The Daily Mail report that Atletico Madrid are back in talks to sign Højbjerg on loan with the option of a £40million permanent move.

Atletico wanted Højbjerg earlier this summer and whilst a deal collapsed at the time, Diego Simeone’s men are back in the race.

Then there is Manchester United, with Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claiming earlier this week that United had held initial contacts over a deal.

Erik ten Hag worked with Højbjerg at Bayern Munich and a reunion has at least been explored by United.

Tottenham will hope that somebody comes in with a cash bid over the next 24 hours, with Fulham’s desperation potentially fading those hopes.
