Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a verbal approach for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven after opening ‘direct talks’.
Micky van de Ven is emerging as a top target for Tottenham Hotspur after opening talks with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Tottenham are now pushing to sign Van de Ven.
It’s stated that Tottenham have opened negotiations with Wolfsburg in the hope of securing a deal for the Dutchman.
Romano claims that Tottenham will now send a ‘verbal proposal’ having learned that Van de Ven is interested in joining Spurs.
Tottenham do still want Bayer Leverkusen ace Edmond Tapsoba but he is thought to be more expensive than Van de Ven right now.
Van de Ven has attracted other Premier League interest of late with iNews reporting in May that Liverpool are interested.
Liverpool have brought in former Wolfsburg man Jorg Schmadtke to help their recruitment process, and he brought Van de Ven to Germany.
A rival move from Liverpool wouldn’t be a shock, but Tottenham are now moving to get this deal in motion.

Why do Tottenham want Micky van de Ven?
The simple answer is that he fits into the modern rise of the left-footed centre back.
Mangers love to sign left-footed centre backs to aid in terms of passing angles when playing from the back and playing out of opposition pressing.
Tottenham wanted Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni last summer but settled for Clement Lenglet on loan, seemingly as a stop-gap before signing a younger option permanently.
Van de Ven could now be that player and he does even have some experience of playing as a left back.

A huge presence at 6ft 4in tall, Van de Ven has outstanding pace and has so much potential at just 22.
Ange Postecoglou wants to build from the back and adding a natural left-footer in Van de Ven would be ideal.
Wolfsburg paid around €3.5million (£3million) to sign Van de Ven from Volendam back in 2021 but Tottenham will have to pay much more now.
Van de Ven isn’t the finished product by any means but he has the raw attributes to become a star in the coming years with Tottenham clearly confident in his ability and potential.
