Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport that Leeds United could make a move for Julian Draxler if they are able to sign him on loan.

The well-known and well-respected journalist, who works for The Guardian and Sky Sport, has said that Leeds will not spend a lot of money on Paris Saint-Germain star Draxler, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.

However, according to Romano, if a loan move is possible, then the Premier League club will explore that option.

The journalist has added that newly appointed PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino has not decided whether or not to offload the Germany international, and has outlined what he said to sporting director Leonardo in a meeting.

According to a report in The Daily Mail earlier this month, Leeds are interested in signing Draxler from PSG in the January transfer window.

Romano told GiveMeSport: “It’s not decided by Pochettino yet, but Pochettino asks for some days to decide about these kind of players that were not playing, like Draxler. So in the first meeting he had with Leonardo he said, ‘Give me some days to decide about these players and then we will decide if (we are) selling them’.

“For sure, Leeds are looking for this kind of player, at Draxler, at Rodrigo de Paul, but they won’t spend like €35 to €40 million (£31.54 – £36.05 million) for this kind of player. So it will be an opportunity if Paris Saint-Germain will decide for example, to send Draxler on loan, they will consider this kind of opportunity. If not, I think it will be difficult.”

Blockbuster signing for Leeds United

Draxler is a big name in world football, and the 2014 World Cup winner with Germany would excite Leeds fans if he moved to Elland Road.

It is hard to see Leeds spend a lot of money in transfer fees and wages on an attacking player in the middle of the season.

After all, the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Raphinha are doing well at the moment.

However, if Draxler joined Leeds this month, then he would be a blockbuster signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
