Arsenal are pressing ahead with a move for Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz after ‘positive contacts’ over a deal.

Kai Havertz is interested in signing for Arsenal this summer and the Gunners are now in talks to sign him.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Arsenal have opened negotiations to sign Havertz.

Romano notes that positive talks have already been held and Havertz is now keen on making the move.

The problem for Arsenal is the current price tag.

Chelsea are demanding around £75million for Havertz according to Romano, which Arsenal simply won’t pay.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with signing Havertz having seen Karim Benzema move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.

Yet their talks for Havertz are allegedly off as things stand, giving Arsenal the chance to ramp up their move for the German.

Mikel Arteta could bring out the best in Kai Havertz

Havertz may have scored the winner in the 2021 Champions League final but his time at the club hasn’t quite worked as planned.

The 24-year-old was a sensation at Bayer Leverkusen, smashing 46 goals and 31 assists in 150 games.

That left Chelsea fans thinking they had signed a future superstar when he arrived in West London in 2020.

32 goals and 15 assists in 139 games for Chelsea isn’t a terrible record but maybe isn’t what fans were expecting.

Havertz – hailed as a ‘fantastic’ football by Germany boss Hansi Flick – has never quite found his right role for Chelsea but that could change with Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s system utilises a false nine, with Gabriel Jesus often coming deep or moving out wide – something Havertz could do.

Havertz also has history of playing down the right flank, possibly offering another option if Bukayo Saka is unavailable.

Then there is the chance to play Havertz as a midfielder, as he often did for Leverkusen but rarely has for Chelsea.

Granit Xhaka is on his way out of Arsenal and using Havertz as a very attack-minded midfielder arriving into the box could work.

We think Arteta’s style can work very well for Havertz but tis will be all about the price tag as £75million is just far too much.
