Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba is keen to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer with contact over a deal now underway.

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba with Arsenal backing away.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Tottenham have now started ‘concrete contacts’ over a move to sign Tapsoba.

It’s stated that Tottenham have had Tapsoba on their wish list for a long time now and discussions are taking place.

Romano notes that the deal is not advanced right now but Tapsoba is keen to join Tottenham.

This comes after Romano claimed that Arsenal were interested in signing Tapsoba before going for Ajax star Jurrien Timber.

Romano noted that Tapsoba would be ‘too expensive’ for what Arsenal wanted but Tottenham were still in the race.

Spurs are now ramping up their interest in Tapsoba and could push for a deal in the coming weeks.

Edmond Tapsoba can help Tottenham improve defensively

New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou must look to bolster his back line this summer.

We’re expecting to see Postecoglou switch to a 4-3-3, a far cry from Antonio Conte’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Tottenham need quality defenders in a back four and Tapsoba has shown that kind of ability in Germany.

Snapped up from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2020, Tapsoba has become one of the top centre backs in the Bundesliga.

Hailed as ‘extremely talented’ and with ‘outstanding potential’ by Leverkusen legend Rudi Voller, Tapsoba will now be worth big money.

The 24-year-old is a tall presence at 6ft 4in tall and fans will love how he can quickly turn defence into attack with passes or even runs out from the back.

This would be an exciting move for Tottenham but also for football in Burkina Faso.

Tapsoba would become just the third Burkinabe player to feature in the Premier League after Bertrand Traore and Dango Ouattara.
