Everton appear to be in the market for a new centre back this summer – and a new name has entered the mix today.
The Toffees have seen Ben Godfrey shine this season, but Mason Holgate’s error against Aston Villa on Saturday suggests another option may be needed.
Add in that The Sun claim Yerry Mina wants to leave Everton this summer in favour of a move to Italy, and signing another centre back looks like being a priority.
Now, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to offer an update on Everton’s search for a new central defender.
Romano claims Everton are indeed planning to sign a centre back, but aren’t in talks for Juventus ace Merih Demiral and Everton aren’t even pursuing.
Intriguingly, Romano claims that Everton want Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, but the La Liga giants simply will not sell.
Araujo, 22, joined Barca from Boston River in 2018, and he has made 29 first-team appearances under ex-Everton boss Ronald Koeman this season.
The Uruguayan has a ‘great future’ ahead of him according to Koeman, and he could be a major coup for Everton, ironically to replace another ex-Barca defender in Mina.
Barca aren’t keen on selling right now, but let’s see if their stance changes this summer once Eric Garcia is on board.
