Everton’s lingering hopes of signing Porto winger Luis Diaz have completely collapsed ahead of the transfer deadline tonight.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has tweeted tonight that the Diaz deal has ‘definitely collapsed’.

Romano added that there is no agreement and no way to resurrect the deal before the transfer deadline in just a couple of hours.

Report from the Liverpool Echo last week suggested that Everton were attempting to sign Diaz in a last-ditch deal, and they wanted to make it a part-exchange move.

That’s where things get tricky, as finalising one deal is hard enough without having it rely on another deal being completed.

It now looks like that deal has fallen through, with Rodriguez back to Porto proving a little too difficult financially for the Portuguese side.

With Everton in no position to pay the straight cash fee Porto want for Diaz, the deal is off and will now be rekindled before 11pm.

Diaz, 24, hit six goals and five assists in 30 league outings last season and dazzled for Colombia at Copa America this past summer.

Rafael Benitez seemingly wanted Diaz at Goodison Park, but he will now have to wait until January if he wants to try again.
