Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool could look to use Marko Grujic in a swap deal this summer.
The 24-year-old was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing as Reds boss back in January of 2016 but it looks like he has very little future at Anfield.
Grujic is on loan with Porto after spending the last two seasons with Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
Liverpool looked to sell him for £20 million last summer but, according to the player himself, the high valuation scared off potential suitors.
The Serbian midfielder’s spell in Portugal isn’t going all that well and a return to Merseyside this summer looks a certainty as things stand, rather than him being signed on a permanent basis.
It’s harsh, but you could probably describe Grujic as ‘deadwood’ at Liverpool but Romano has told Anfield Watch that Klopp and Michael Edwards may find a creative way to offload him.
According to the reliable Italian journalist, Liverpool could use Grujic in a swap deal as opposed to try find a straight sale for him.
Romano said: “Marko Grujic, I’m told, could be involved in some possible swap deals next summer if Liverpool have some good opportunities to add in midfield or in defence.
“He could be an interesting player to offer so they will try to do something smart again, as they have previously with the Diogo Jota deal for example.”
Well, a swap deal is Liverpool’s best bet, unless they majorly reduce their asking price.
Wanting £20 million for Grujic is just unrealistic by virtue of the fact that he hasn’t delivered all that much on his potential as of yet.
And perhaps it’s even better for the reigning Premier League champions if they can swap him for somebody who Klopp actually has use for because, as of right now, he can’t have any long-term plan for Grujic.
