Well-known football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Barcelona have made contact with the agent of Georginio Wijnaldum.
Romano, who works for The Guardian among other media outlets, has stated that the Barcelona board has contacted Wijnaldum’s agent.
The journalist has added that Spanish and European giants will submit an official bid in the next few days.
The Guardian reported earlier this month that Barcelona want to sign the Netherlands international, and that the Reds could sell the 29-year-old if they get a good offer.
Liverpool exit on the cards?
Wijnaldum is a very good and important midfielder for Liverpool, but there is a chance that he could be a Barcelona player soon.
The Dutchman enjoyed playing under new Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman for the Netherlands national football team.
With the former Newcastle United midfielder out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, the Premier League champions may not have any option other than to sell him now instead of losing him on a free next summer.
The Reds will be aiming to make it back-to-back title success next season, as well compete in the Champions League.
