Celtic lost 1-0 to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon, and it looks like they’re wasting no time in getting Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt signed up.
The Bhoys were disappointing in their defeat to the Championship side, with young centre back duo Osaze Urhoghide and Stephen Welsh looking a little unconvincing in the first half.
Celtic must land defensive reinforcements this summer, and Swedish international Starfelt looks to be Glasgow-bound.
Transfer inside Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to state that ‘the deal is done’ and Starfelt is signing for Celtic imminently.
Romano added there is ‘no doubt’ over the deal, with Celtic paying €5million (£4.3million) to bring Starfelt over from Rubin Kazan in Russia.
The Italian added that that the official announcement may not come for a few days yet, but Celtic have got their man.
Romano actually reported last weekend that Celtic have ‘stepped down’ from the race for Starfelt after their £4.3million bid was rejected.
That offer seems to have been accepted this time though, so maybe add-ons or certain clauses have been altered to tempt Rubin into accepting.
Starfelt, 26, has been branded a ‘leader’ over in Russia, and Celtic need him to bring that kind of influence to Glasgow.
The defender may have missed out on a spot in Sweden’s Euro 2020 squad, but has clearly done enough with Rubin to impress Celtic, and it looks like he will become a Bhoy very soon.
