Aston Villa are weighing up a move to bring former Tottenham Hotspur defender Clement Lenglet back to the Premier League.
Clement Lenglet could end up joining Aston Villa with a Tottenham Hotspur return looking very unlikely.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Villa are now considering a move to sign Lenglet this week.
It’s stated that Barcelona are aware of Villa’s interest and are now waiting for developments on a potential deal.
Villa have a number of targets on the table and Lenglet is just one of them.
Romano adds that Barcelona ‘feel sure’ that Lengelt will leave before the transfer deadline.
Villa are in the market for another left-footed centre back after seeing Tyrone Mings do down with a major injury.
Lenglet could come in to fill the gap in Villa’s squad as they prepare for life in the Europa Conference League this season.

Clement Lenglet surely isn’t going back to Tottenham Hotspur now.
Lenglet spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur given that he had no future at Barcelona.
The Frenchman was hailed as an ‘excellent’ player by Cristian Romero and managed 24 Premier League starts last season.
There have been rumours in the Catalan media throughout the summer window suggesting that Lenglet would be heading back to Tottenham.
SPORT claimed earlier this month that Tottenham had a three-year deal in place for Lenglet and that the clubs had held direct talks during a friendly match.

Yet with just days to go, it feels incredibly unlikely that Tottenham will make a move.
Spurs landed one left-footed centre back this summer in Micky van de Ven and it’s hard to see how Lenglet improves Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that Lenglet was on the verge of a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
They signed Aymeric Laporte instead, meaning his top two options – Al Nassr and Tottenham – seemingly aren’t materialising.
That could allow Villa to swoop in and take Lenglet to Villa Park, handing him a swift Premier League return.
