Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero’s future.

The Argentine is leaving the Etihad this summer once his contract expires, and as you can imagine, there have been plenty of rumours about where he will end up.

The striker has been a great servant for City, perhaps being their best signing ever for £35m back in 2011, but now he’s on the lookout for a new challenge, and Romano says that he would love to head to Spain to play for Barcelona.

“Let me say about Aguero. We had rumours of an Aguero deal signed with Barcelona, it’s not signed. Aguero would love to join Barcelona. His dream is to play with Lionel Messi at Barcelona. He’s one of their options, as is Depay, but it’s not a done deal. Both Depay and Aguero will be free agents in the summer, so Barca will decide in the coming weeks which kind of player they want to sign,” Romano said.

It’s no surprise to hear that Aguero wants to play with Messi.

For a start, Messi is, for our money, the greatest footballer of all time, so why wouldn’t you want to play with him?

Secondly, the pair are very close, they know each other from their time in Argentina, and Messi is reportedly even the godfather of Aguero’s son, Benjamin.

However, as Romano says, no deal is done yet. Barcelona are facing financial difficulties, so they may find it hard to afford Aguero’s wages, but if the Argentine is adamant that he wants to play for La Blaugrana, they may come to an agreement.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
