Fabrizio Romano has lauded Brighton & Hove Albion for reportedly placing a £85m transfer fee on Moises Caicedo, who Newcastle United are believed to be interested in signing next year.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian journalist was full of praise for Brighton over their transfer strategy and agreed with the decision for the club to value Caicdeo as highly as they have, with the midfielder arguably one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League this season.
Caicedo joined the Seagulls in 2021 from Ecuador and has since established himself as one of the best young midfielders in Europe, with the 20-year-old starting every game for Brighton so far this season as transfer interest continues to mount for the youngster.
The Mirror recently reported that Brighton are not open to selling Caicedo, however, a transfer fee of £85m could tempt the south coast side to let their new star player leave, with Newcastle one of the sides tracking the Ecuador international, alongside Liverpool.

Indeed, Brighton have no real reason to sell Caicedo after their incredibly profitable summer this year. And for Romano, the Seagulls are well within their right to demand as much as £85m for the midfielder given how talented the youngster is and how high is potential is.
Romano said on Brighton’s reported transfer fee for Caicedo: “I think Brighton have been simply excellent with their transfer strategy in the last few years, De Zerbi loves Caicedo and so it’s fair to ask that fee for a key player who has top potential for the future.”
Newcastle could actually match Moises Caicedo’s transfer fee

Newcastle’s PIF regime theoretically means that the Toon could afford any player they desire if Eddie Howe is desperate enough to sign them. And given how impressive Caicedo has been this season, there’s a good chance that the Magpies might be risky enough to make an offer of £85m.
After all, Caicedo is establishing himself as arguably the best young midfielder in the Premier League, and with Newcastle making smart signing after smart signing, it isn’t unrealistic to suggest that the Magpies would go big on the Brighton star.
