According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are planning to sell Lucas Torreira, who is currently on a season-long loan spell with Atletico Madrid.
The Italian journalist made the revelation on his Here We Go podcast, in which he also spoke about Matteo Guendouzi’s future.
Romano said: “Arsenal plan to sell Torreira and make money. For Matteo Guendouzi it’s different, they will decide next summer what to do.”
In our view, Torreira has been harshly treated by the Gunners.
The 26-cap Uruguay international had an amazing start to life in north London, starring in his debut campaign under Unai Emery following a £26 million move from Sampdoria.
Torreira netted against arch-rivals Tottenham, and was looking like a player who could’ve had an N’Golo Kante like impact on the Gunners.

However, Emery tried to remould the £75,000-a-week man into a No.10 the following season, and then he never managed to settle once Mikel Arteta took over.
He did have a brief period of joy, where the Spaniard described him as ‘really good’ after his display in a 2-0 win over Manchester United.
“He was really good again. He wants to fight for every ball. In training he fights for every inch.”

At 25 years of age, you could argue that the Fray Bentos born midfield terrier still has his best seasons ahead of him.
To spend so much on him, only to look to sell him a few years after he arrived, just doesn’t make much sense.
In fairness, Arteta didn’t sign him, and if the Spaniard wants funds from Torreira’s exit so he can sign players he wants, then you can’t argue with that.
