Fabrizio Romano says Marcelo Brozovic is set to put pen to paper on a new Inter Milan contract on Monday – despite numerous reports linking him with a move to Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Brozovic, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season despite remaining a key player under Simone Inzaghi – clocking up 33 appearances for Inter already, in all competitions. His experience is enormous, at the top level.

Indeed, the 70-time Croatia international has clocked up a huge 275 appearances since moving to the San Siro. He has clocked up 436 games since making his professional debut back in his home country.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported in February that both Newcastle and Tottenham tabled proposals to sign Brozovic in January on a pre-contract basis. However, both were rejected – and Romano says a new deal is close.

Romano says Brozovic to stay at Inter: Newcastle, Tottenham blow

On a free transfer, Brozovic would have been a stunning signing. Newcastle have brought in Bruno Guimaraes and Tottenham have signed Rodrigo Bentancur – but both sides could still have done with Brozovic’s experience.

Brozovic is a leader and his experience makes him a top, top player. Especially, given he is still under the age of 30. With Tottenham boasting Antonio Conte, that reunion would have massively improved Spurs.

Newcastle have Bruno, but the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock might not be deemed good enough for where Newcastle want to get to. An experienced head like Brozovic might be ideal.
