According to Fabrizio Romano, Nayef Aguerd now wants a move to the Premier League with West Ham, as negotiations with Rennes continue.

What’s the story?

Well, David Moyes is keen to bring another centre-back to the London Stadium this summer, and it seems he has found his man in the Morocco international.

Romano believes West Ham are “optimistic” of getting a deal over the line, and talks are progressing with “positive feelings” according to the reliable Italian.

It has been said that Moyes hopes to have a £17m deal for Aguerd lined up before the end of the week, as the Scot looks to do his transfer business early.

You can see what Romano wrote on Twitter in full below.

If the deal is done this week, then it will be a huge relief for the Irons.

In our view, the centre-back department at West Ham is in need of investment.

Nobody knows if Angelo Ogbonna will be the same player following his serious knee injury at the age of 34, while Issa Diop – whose form has been a concern – could be leaving east London.

Therefore, another body in that area is needed, which West Ham seem to have found in Aguerd.

The 26-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions for Rennes last season, scoring four goals while also providing three assists.

Nayef Aguerd could shine at West Ham

In our view, this would be a fantastic signing for West Ham.

Aguerd has been one of the standout defenders in France this season, and at the age of just 26, he is right in the midst of his prime years as a footballer.

According to the Evening Standard, the Moroccan excels at passing out from the back, with his progressive passing leading to Rennes scoring 82 goals last season – only Paris Saint-Germain netted more.

Aguerd – who allegedly once used West Ham to land a new contract – is also known for his dominance in the air, as well as his recovery speed.

By all accounts, this will be a fantastic signing for Moyes, and a hugely necessary one as well.
