Cesc Fabregas has given his take on Liverpool midfielder Thiago on BBC One (7:43pm, June 19, 2021).

The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder believes that Thiago has a lot of quality.

However, Fabregas has said that his 30-year-old compatriot needs to step up in the big tournaments for Spain.

The former Bayern Munich star – who cost Liverpool £20 million in transfer fees last summer, according to BBC Sport – is part of the Spain squad at the ongoing Euro 2020 finals.

What’s been said?

Fabregas said about Thiago on BBC One (7:43pm, June 19, 2021): “Thiago, without any doubt, he has got fantastic qualities. He started very young at Barcelona, I played with him for a year.

“I think it’s time for Thiago to basically do something big in a big tournament. He has been now at the Euros, he has been at the World Cup, he never really played too much.

“So I think he needs to find a consistency to show the whole world that he really has top top level to show it at the biggest stage.”

Does Cesc Fabregas have a point?

Thiago is a brilliant footballer.

The former Barcelona star can hold his own in the middle of the park, control the tempo of the game, reads the game well, and has vision.

One of the reasons why Bayern won the Champions League in 2020 was Thiago’s performances in the knockout stages.

However, in international football for the Spain senior side, Thiago has not been particularly great.

The Liverpool star has not started for Spain in their Euro 2020 game against Poland this evening.

Thiago has been with Spain at major international tournaments, but he has failed to win any or make a huge impact.

The Liverpool star is at the peak of his powers at the moment.

Thiago is 30 now, and the ongoing European Championship and the World Cup next season are his last two chances of showcasing himself in major international tournaments.
