Tottenham Hotspur’s farcical managerial search is now over having appointed Nuno Espirito Santo – quite the drop from Antonio Conte.
Tottenham fans were left buzzing when rumours of a deal for Conte began to emerge, and who can blame them?
The Italian had just won the Serie A title with Inter Milan and has a Premier League title to his name with Chelsea, so Tottenham supporters were excited by the prospect of trophies.
As was the case with many Tottenham manager targets though, a move for Conte fell through.
Conte remains out of work having missed out on the Tottenham job, but Spurs have found their new boss in the end with Nuno Espirito Santo arriving.
So what of Tottenham’s move for Conte? Well, Tottenham’s new director of football Fabio Paratici has shed some light on that.
Paratici worked with Conte at Juventus, and there was real hope that both Italians would be arriving to reunite in an exciting new era at Tottenham.

In the end, only Paratici made the move. He has now been speaking to Sky Italia about various topics – including Conte’s failed move.
With a pretty coy answer, Paratici did confirm that Tottenham held talks with Conte.
However, he suggested that you can’t just appoint a coach on his record, but also the ‘energy’ they provide and whether they’re a good fit for the club – which Tottenham seemingly decided wasn’t the case with Conte.
“Conte? We talked to him, but when you choose, you don’t just talk to a coach. You try to understand the best choice, the energy they have at that moment and then you make evaluations,” said Paratici.
