With his contract at VR46 set to expire at the end of 2026, Fabio Di Giannantonio’s camp has started looking at options for the following year.

Yamaha had shown interest in pairing Diggia with Jorge Martin for 2027, but recent developments suggest they’ve moved in a different direction.

According to recent reports, Yamaha have chosen Ai Ogura to fill out their rider lineup, stepping away from discussions with Di Giannantonio.

Di Giannantonio has been in excellent form this year and currently sits fourth in the championship standings behind Pedro Acosta.

Still, even with other options on the table, Giannantonio hasn’t ruled out staying with VR46. His agent confirmed that while there have been discussions with several teams, a return isn’t off the cards.

Diego Tavano, who represents Fabio Di Giannantonio, has confirmed to GPOne Italy that he’s already having talks with VR46 about a potential extension to his client’s contract.

Tavano made it clear he isn’t in any hurry, preferring to wait for the right deal. That approach includes reaching out to multiple teams to explore all options.

“There are several interests at the moment. We’re talking to several teams, but we don’t want to rush. Fabio is fully focused on the championship.

I’m taking care of his future, trying to carefully evaluate everything. We’re certainly optimistic that this partnership will continue.

The ‘Diggia’ of two years ago is certainly not the same as today. As a result, they want to treat him like a top rider, which is why we’re taking a little longer.”

Diego Tavano also made it clear that talks with other teams haven’t changed their strong relationship with VR46 or Luigi Dall’Igna.

“We get along great with Ducati and VR46: they’ve always treated Fabio like a top rider. VR46 is also a top team, where the rider is at the centre of the project.

“Staying there with a factory bike would be a top-notch solution. We have a wonderful relationship with the entire team, and Dall’Igna has shown great appreciation for what Fabio has done.”

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Di Giannantonio stick around at VR46, given how important he’s become to their setup this season.
