As a QPR fan I was very pleased to hear we have loaned Fabio da Silva from Manchester United for a year.
He’s turning twenty two on Monday; a nice birthday present will be to meet his new teammates. The question is; where is Fabio been brought in to play?
If the rumour mill is to be believed then Luke Young is on his way out of the club. I find that a great shame as he only lost his place through injury.
When he got fit again he couldn’t dislodge Nedum Onuoha; the irony there is Onuoha is mainly a centre back.
So will Onuoha start the season as right back or is that the reason Mark Hughes has brought Fabio in?
I would have thought Fabio would be ahead Onuoha purely as I’m sure the former Manchester City man was bought in as a centre.
But if Hughes goes with Onuoha as right back then where would Fabio fit in?
At the moment the only recognised left back at the club is Armand Traore but to be honest he is better on the left wing!
The great thing about Fabio is he can play anywhere across the defence and even in midfield. I doubt Hughes has brought him to play in midfield but at least it’s an option.
So if Mark Hughes had to pick his goalkeeper and defence with the squad he had at his disposable now I think he’d pick the following; Rob Green (goalkeeper), Fabio (left back), Anton Ferdinand, Clint Hill (centre backs), Onuoha (right back).
I don’t think Hughes is finished in the transfer market; I think he’ll get in at least three or four more players; who they are and what position they play is anyone’s guess.
All I know is Fabio is young and raw and hungry but at the same time brings a great deal of experience at the same time. You don’t play for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team over fifty times if you’re not very good.
Some fans have moaned saying he’s not good enough or why do we need a loan; I’d like to point out that he’s a Brazil international and it suits both clubs.
The added bonus is he wants a new challenge and I can see nothing but good things coming from this deal.
Fabio da Silva – Welcome to Loftus road.
