Liverpool should make a move for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao in the summer transfer window.

Like the other clubs in the Premier League, Liverpool will be busy in the summer transfer window. The Reds may have had a successful 2016-17 campaign, but they will still be looking to make signings.

One area that Liverpool should look to improve is the left-back position. Alberto Moreno has failed to convince, and James Milner should not be relied upon to do that job in the long run.

There are not too many world-class left-backs available at the moment, which means that the Reds will have to settle for someone who is good, but not great.

Enter Fabio Coentrao.

Coentrao is 29 years of age and is not getting into the Real Madrid team. The Portugal international left-back played on loan for AS Monaco last season and has been able to make only two starts in La Liga this campaign.

Injuries have played a role in the defender’s recent struggles, but there is still enough left in the 29-year-old.

The former Benfica left-back was always going to be playing second fiddle to Marcelo at Madrid, but he would be a smart signing for Liverpool.

Coentrao has a lot of experience, and he could play in tandem with Milner at left-back during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Madrid defender would be a good cover, and if he gets a good run in the team, then he could regain the form he showed at Benfica which led to Madrid signing him.
