Fabio Cardoso has heaped praise upon Glasgow Rangers teammate Ross McCrorie, who has made a bright start to life at Ibrox.

The 19-year-old was the recent beneficiary of Bruno Alves’ injury that he has only just returned from, as the Portuguese’s absence led to Pedro Caixinha giving him a run in the team alongside Cardoso at the heart of the defence.

Considering that McCrorie had not made his first-team debut before September, the teenager certainly did well when he was given a chance, so much so that Caixinha still gave him a handful of minutes in the Gers’ win over St Johnstone on Friday despite having Alves back in the side.
And while Cardoso expressed his delight at having Alves back alongside him, the summer signing also heaped praise upon McCrorie.

“Playing with Bruno is an honour for me but last week I played with Ross and he is an amazing player, he is very young and has a lot of potential,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think he is going to be the future of Scotland because he is very good with the ball and without, I like him a lot.”
While it is extremely encouraging to see the 23-year-old praise his young teammate, and is surely a sign of the team morale currently being high as they play in the same position, it is arguably just a little bit surprising that Cardoso has spoken about his admiration for the prospect.
Unfortunately for Cardoso, he has not enjoyed the most convincing run of form since arriving at Ibrox in the summer, and if he continues to look uncomfortable or make poor decisions, then perhaps Caixinha will be tempted to try McCrorie alongside Alves in the hope that playing alongside the veteran will help the academy graduate realise his potential.
