Fabio Capello has told The Mail that Harry Kane is lucky to have Tottenham manager Antonio Conte as his boss, claiming the Italian has improved the England skipper since arriving in North London to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

Kane, 29, has made an excellent start to the Premier League campaign. In seven Premier League games, he has found the back of the net six times – including the equaliser against Leicester on Saturday during a 6-2 home win.

The striker’s focus will now switch to the Nations League over the next couple of weeks. England take on Italy on Friday, and Germany next Monday, as they look to recover from a woeful four games – in which they have two points.

It looks very unlikely that even with two wins, England could finish in the top two places. These games will be much more focused on preparing for the winter World Cup in Qatar. Capello, of course, struggled himself as England boss.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s match between his home nation, and the country he used to manage, Capello raved about Kane. He said he is England’s most-important player, and is lucky to have Conte as manager – who is improving him.

“I think so,” Capello said, when asked if Kane is one of the best strikers in the history of football. “He is lucky enough to be coached by Conte, who has helped him improve. Kane doesn’t just wait for the ball.

“Now he drops off and is involved in the build-up. He is a player who scores goals and gets assists. Look at the greats, such as the Brazilian Ronaldo. He didn’t get many assists, he just scored goals. He is England’s most important player.”

Capello: Kane is lucky to have Conte as Tottenham boss

There is no doubt that Kane has improved under Conte. Not only from a numbers perspective, but from the view that he is now fully integrated into the Spurs side. He does a bit of everything and that can only help Spurs.

Conte has worked out a system that allows Kane to drop deep, but that Spurs still have a vocal point when he looks to create. His range of passing should not go unnoticed. It is something Gareth Southgate has failed to get right.
