Sunderland are set to bank £5million when Fabio Borini completes his permanent move to AC Milan.
Fabio Borini’s permanent move to AC Milan will reportedly bank Sunderland £5million as they continue to prepare for their League One rebuild.
Borini, who signed for the Black Cats from Liverpool in 2015 for a reported fee of £10million, joined the Rossoneri on a season-long loan deal last summer, initially impressing Vincenzo Montella before proving himself to his replacement Gennaro Gattuso.
That loan deal included an option to make the arrangement permanent, with Borini’s agent confirming on Thursday his client will sign a three-year deal which will be made official on 1 July.
The Sunderland Echo now carry more details of the deal, reporting the move is understood to be worth £5million.
A mass clear-out is expected at the Stadium of Light this summer as the club prepare for life in the third tier of football following two consecutive relegations. The £5million fee from the Borini deal will go some way in financing the rebuild, with Jeremain Lens’ permanent switch to Besiktas earlier this year bringing in £6million, as reported by Sky Sports.
Elsewhere, the club’s prospective new owner Stewart Donald is hoping to complete his takeover with a meeting with the English Football League scheduled for Friday, BBC Sport report.
