Sunderland striker Fabio Borini has admitted to the Chronicle that he has frustrations at not knowing his role in David Moyes’ side.

Borini has been asked to play in a number of different attacking positions this season, due to his versatility.

And the Italian striker believes that his failure to be played in the same role on a consistent basis has affected his form.

“I need the goals, but more than anything I need to play every week and to know what my role is because it has changed so many times,” Borini said.

“I have been told to play on the left, the right, in the middle, behind the striker, and even left-back when it is needed.

“If it’s needed in a game, that’s not a problem.

“But to be consistent and to play in a certain way every week, that would obviously be my preference – not just for myself but for all 11 players, and the 18, and the 22 that are in the squad.”

Borini has been shifted around Sunderland’s attacking positions, and most recently has played in a wide-role.

The former Liverpool man has not been at his best this season, with Sunderland struggling for form.

Borini has scored just once in 14 appearances for the Black Cats, and he looks to be short of confidence.

Sunderland need Borini to get back to his top level quickly, as they are currently fighting against the drop.

The Black Cats are sat at the bottom of the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety.
