The new Everton signing has been speaking to media this week after his switch from Manchester City.

New Everton signing Fabian Delph is hoping to bring the winning mentality forged by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City to Goodison Park, Sky Sports report.

As the Goodison Park faithful don’t need reminded, the Toffees haven’t won a major honour since 1995 when they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

It’s something the support crave heading into every new season, but for the club to achieve their aims, they need players in the squad who know how to win trophies.

Delph, 29, has been part of a squad that has won the last two English Premier League titles and although not a key player under Guardiola, still played his part and an important role.

He feels that bringing that experience to Everton could be a benefit to the club.

As quoted by Sky Sports, he said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to be in a squad full of winning mentality. I’m not going to change coming here. The main goal is to be successful and win something.

“I’m aware the club hasn’t won something in a long time. That’s top of my list to hopefully try and push the lads and them to push me and win something.

“[The winning mentality] probably comes easier to me because I’m one of the older players. You don’t have to be the best player in the team to influence people, to drive and to set standards high with good habits.”

Clearly having that kind of experience is a big part of why he’s being added to the Everton squad, with the club having benefited in the past from bringing in players who were senior squad members at elite sides, such as Phil Neville and Gareth Barry.

Delph is not guaranteed to be a Goodison Park success but as well as this touted experience and winning mentality he’ll also have a hunger to play, having not really been a week-to-week choice at the Etihad.

All that, combined with his talent and versatility, could make him a really shrewd Marco Silva signing.

He may not be the most fashionable transfer in the Premier League this summer but he could be an effective one over the next season and beyond.
