Leeds United and Celtic should not give up on signing Fabian Delph from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has told The Independent that he wants to remain at the club.
Delph joined City from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £8 million.
The 27-year-old midfielder has struggled for playing time at the Etihad Stadium, but he has made it clear that he wants to carry playing for for the Citizens.
“Yes, of course,” Delph told The Independent when asked if he hopes to remain at City next season. “I’m working with the best management team in the world, as far as I’m concerned, the best players in the world, we’ve got great chemistry, a lot of the boys we’re very close and of course I’d love to be a part of that. We’ll have to see what happens at the end of the season.”
It seems that Delph is determined to play for City next season and prove himself at the Etihad Stadium, but that should not discourage Leeds United and Celtic to make moves for him in the summer transfer window.
Celtic could do with someone like Delph in their squad for next season. The England international would bring invaluable experience and quality to the Bhoys’ midfield and play a key role in their quest to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.
Of course, the Bhoys will have to spend a lot of money to sign the former Villa midfielder, but it would be worth it in the end.
Leeds are probably not going to have any chance of signing Delph if they do not get promoted to the Premier League. After all, despite his ties with Elland Road, moving down to the Championship would be a step-down for the Englishman.
However, if the Whites get promoted, then they would need better players in midfield than they have at the moment. A loan deal could be appealing for Leeds, City and Delph.
Despite Delph’s inclination to stay at City, Leeds and Celtic should do their best in the summer to change his mind. If the conditions are right, then perhaps the midfielder could be convinced to move away from the Etihad Stadium.
