Everton midfielder Fabian Delph has made two competitive appearances for the club so far.

Fabian Delph has suggested to the Liverpool Echo that Everton need to be more alert after scoring.

Delph has played twice for Everton and they have won both games which has started.

However, against Lincoln City and against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton have lost their lead.

And Delph thinks that the Toffees have a problem which needs ironing out.

“I feel like when we go ahead, we almost take our foot off the gas a little bit,” Delph said.

“When you go a goal behind it’s almost as if the pressure drops off you and you feel like you can play more. So I think once we go ahead we need to be even more switched on because the other team is definitely going to push for a goal, and that’s when we need leaders.

“We need to be level-headed and try to keep the ball ticking, take the pressure off ourselves a little bit by playing that extra pass – and just playing the game smartly.”

Everton got past Lincoln last week to progress in the Carabao Cup, as they scored two late goals to grab a 4-2 win.

The Toffees then required a late Richarlison strike to beat Wolves 3-2 at the weekend, despite leading twice in the contest.

Delph’s experience, in time, should help the younger players in Everton’s squad stay focussed for the full 90 minutes.

Silva’s side have made a relatively positive start to the Premier League season heading into the first international break, and currently sit in sixth place.

Everton’s next match comes against Bournemouth in two weekends’ time.
