Fabian Delph shares what Joleon Lescott told him about Everton fans

Everton have signed Fabian Delph from Manchester City, with the midfielder expected to have an important role to play for Marco Silva’s side.

Everton new boy Fabian Delph has told the Liverpool Echo that Joleon Lescott was urging him to sign at Goodison Park.

Everton have bought Delph for £8 million from Manchester City this summer, in what looks to have been a very smart piece of business.

Delph did his research before joining Everton, and Lescott was one of the players who he asked about the Toffees.

“I spoke to Joleon Lescott and he said they’re very intelligent fans, they understand football and there’s no hiding,” Delph said.

“I’m all about that. I’m decent pals with Joleon and he loves the club, he was here for a decent time.

“Once I mentioned Everton to him he said, ‘Pff, make sure you get yourself there. They’re a fantastic club.’”

Lescott spent three years at Everton, making over 100 appearances for the club, before he joined Manchester City.

Delph’s role at Everton is yet to be seen, as he currently faces fierce competition for a midfield spot.

Marco Silva’s side already have Idrissa Gueye and Andre Gomes to pick from in midfield, but there could be a gap about to open.

Gueye’s future at Everton is very uncertain, with PSG keen on the Senegalese international according to Le Parisien.

If the 29-year-old does leave then Delph looks likely to step straight into Everton’s starting line-up, although Silva has gone on record to suggest that the England international has not been signed as a replacement for Gueye.
