Everton snapped up Fabian Delph from Manchester City this summer.

Everton midfielder Fabian Delph has been quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that he was ‘blown away’ by his meeting with director of football Marcel Brands.

Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi grabbed the headlines as Everton’s major summer signings, but it was another new boy who took most of the plaudits after the recent win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Midfielder Delph was superb, keeping the ball moving in possession and working hard to win it back out of possession, serving as a combative yet calming force in the Everton engine room.

The 29-year-old left Premier League winners Manchester City for a move to Goodison Park, seemingly feeling that he would have a better shot at first-team football with the Toffees.

His display against Wolves suggests he’s going to be an important player for Everton, but he’ll have to keep those levels up with Jean-Philippe Gbamin looking to recover from injury.

Delph penned a three-year deal worth £80,000-a-week according to Spotrac, and he’s been opening up on his move to Merseyside.

Delph admitted that Brands came to his house to give him a presentation about joining Everton, and he was left ‘blown away’ by the detail involved.

The England international revealed that Brands showed him where he would play in different formations and systems for Marco Silva, adding that Brands sold him the dream, and when Brands left his house, he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

“I was blown away,” said Delph. “I wasn’t being told to leave City. But after speaking to Marcel about the club’s plans and his ideas, I got really excited. I certainly didn’t expect a presentation. There was detail about where I would play and what I would contribute in different systems – although I wasn’t guaranteed to play, you have to earn that right.”

“Marcel explained my role at the club and how I could bring my experience to help the younger players. Marcel sold me the dream. I remember him leaving my house and saying, ‘It’s Everton’. The opportunity to come here was too much to turn down,” he added.
