Leeds currently sit at the top of the Championship table.
Fabian Delph has told TalkSPORT that he is “quietly confident” that Marcelo Bielsa is guiding his former side Leeds United towards Premier League promotion this season.
Leeds have remained outside of the top flight of English football since being relegated at the end of the 2003-04 season, when a 4-1 loss to Bolton finally relegated the Yorkshire outfit into the Championship.
The instalment of former Argentina manager Bielsa as manager has whipped up plenty of optimism at Elland Road, with results adding momentum in their bid to return to the top flight.
Four wins and two draws sees Leeds sitting pretty at the top of the Championship, and Delph believes Bielsa could be the man to finally guide the Whites back into the Premier League.
“I’ve been watching closely and I’ve been really impressed with the way they’ve been playing,” Delph said. “The fan base there is absolutely incredible so if you’ve got a team that’s doing well, with fans like that behind you, it’s always going to give you that extra push.
“I’m quietly confident that Leeds will get promoted this season.”
Making his Leeds debut as an 18-year-old in May 2007, Delph went on to clock up 58 appearances for his boyhood club before leaving to join Aston Villa in January 2012.
Since then, Delph has joined Manchester City where he played an integral part in helping Pep Guardiola’s side win the Premier League title before acting as back-up as England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Delph will be in action and in line to win his 16th England cap on Saturday, as the Three Lions go up against Spain in the UEFA Nations League.
