Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after Matty Cash announced that he’d become a Polish citizen, as he gets set to represent the nation.
What’s the story?
Well, after being ignored by Gareth Southgate, the £65,000-a-week Aston Villa man has decided to represent Poland.
Cash is eligible to do so, as his Mother’s parents were born in Gdansk, and he has now decided to grab the opportunity with both hands.
After securing citizenship, it is now down to Paulo Sousa to call him up.
Given his status as a leading Premier League performer, we can’t foresee any issues with that – Cash would immediately become one of the best players in the Poland squad, in our view.
The £16m man has started all nine Premier League games for the Villans this season, scoring one goal.
Were it not for the fact England are extremely well-stocked at right-back, he may have been given a chance by Southgate.

Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier are all options for Southgate.
That isn’t to mention Tariq Lamptey, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and others.
One fan warned that Ezri Konsa will be next if Southgate doesn’t call him up – the centre-back is eligible to represent Portugal, if he chooses to do so.
Aston Villa star Matty Cash did the right thing
As aforesaid, there are so many top-class right-backs at Southgate’s disposal, so Cash may have been waiting years for an opportunity.
International football is a unique experience, and the right-back has certainly made the correct call in choosing Poland.

Now, he will be able to taste the special experience of appearing at a World Cup, and also a European Championship – should Poland qualify, that is.
With the prolific Robert Lewandowski leading the line, we’d say there’s a good chance they will do just that.
For now, let’s see what the Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been saying about Cash…
